The students are learning how to identify the text structure of non-fiction texts.  They look for key words, phrases, dates, and events.  They create a Flow Map to help them with their reading response.

The students are learning to identify similarities and differences within a text.  They created a double-bubble map and then created a written response.  The next step will be to identify similarities and differences in two texts on the same topic.

The students read 2 versions of the same story.  They identified the problem, how the problem got bigger, and the solution/ending on post-its.  Then, they determined the similarities and differences of the stories by creating a comparing and contrasting map.  Finally, they created a reading response that identified one similarity and one difference between the 2 stories.
